Helen Sorensen

Equine-Assisted Therapist | Mental Health Counsellor

Helen Sorensen is a Mental Health Counsellor with extensive experience in equine-assisted therapy and counselling. She works with Goodsky as part of the multidisciplinary team, providing integrative, one-to-one therapeutic support within personalised mental health programs.

Helen has been involved with horses for over five decades as a competitor, coach, and educator. Through this lifelong experience, she recognised the unique capacity of horses to support emotional awareness, regulation, and healing. This insight led her to undertake specialist training overseas in equine-assisted psychotherapy in 2004, alongside formal counselling qualifications. Her therapeutic work integrates counselling, equine-assisted approaches, and embodied processing to support individuals experiencing emotional distress, life challenges, and difficulties with regulation and connection. Helen’s approach is practical, creative, and deeply non-judgemental, offering a safe and supportive environment for both individuals and families. Helen is recognised as one of Australia’s most experienced equine-assisted therapy facilitators and has played a significant role in the development of equine-assisted mental health practice nationally. Her contribution includes training, mentoring, and supporting the growth of the field through collaboration with international educators.
