A private, one-on-one residential retreat on the Sunshine Coast for adults living with depression, anxiety, chronic stress and burnout. We address the physical and nervous-system drivers, not only the symptoms.

For decades, depression and anxiety have been explained mainly as a "chemical imbalance," too little serotonin. That understanding has helped a great many people, and medication remains a valuable, often essential, part of care.
But many people do everything right (medication, weekly therapy, time) and still feel exhausted, foggy and anxious. A growing body of research points to why: depression and anxiety are rarely about a single brain chemical. They're increasingly understood as whole-body conditions, shaped by inflammation, gut health, hormones, chronic stress and a nervous system held in a prolonged state of defence.
"If your depression or anxiety hasn't fully resolved with standard treatment, it isn't because you aren't trying hard enough. It often means the condition needs a broader approach."
Adapted from Greg Doney, Beyond the Chemical Imbalance, citing Moncrieff et al. (2022), Molecular Psychiatry.
This is the thinking behind Goodsky's approach. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, we look at the whole system, mind and body together, to find what's keeping someone stuck and work with it directly.

It isn't always sadness or obvious panic. For many people it's a quieter, grinding experience:
Goodsky works with adults experiencing persistent or treatment-resistant depression and anxiety - particularly where the body and nervous system are involved.
Including treatment-resistant depression, major depressive disorder (MDD), post-burnout depression, and persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia) that hasn't responded to medication or therapy alone.
Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, social anxiety and health anxiety, and the chronic activation that often sits under sleep and digestion issues.
The "tired but wired" pattern, a physiology stuck in survival mode after prolonged stress or overload.
Long-running low mood, including dysthymia and seasonal affective disorder (SAD), that may never have reached crisis point but has quietly worn life down.
Depression and anxiety that sit alongside unresolved trauma, PTSD or childhood adversity.
Disrupted sleep, hypervigilance, and the dysregulation that keeps the body from settling.
Anonymised examples of how people have worked through persistent and treatment-resistant depression with Goodsky's coordinated, one-to-one care.
After decades of depression that hadn't responded to treatment, Annette worked through a program focused on functional pathology, targeted nutritional support, and dietary change.

After years of depression, anxiety, and PTSD, Sarah worked through extremely severe symptoms and long-standing physical health challenges over a five-week coordinated residential program.

When depression and anxiety haven't responded to standard care, the cause is often physical as much as psychological. These are some of the systemic drivers our assessment looks at:
Chronic stress and poor diet can trigger neuroinflammation, which can produce the heavy fatigue, withdrawal and low motivation that look and feel like depression.
Most of the body's neurotransmitter activity and immune system sit in the gut. Imbalances here are increasingly linked to mood and anxiety.
Prolonged stress dysregulates cortisol and other hormones, keeping the body in a state of alarm that's hard to think your way out of.
An over-activated or "stuck" nervous system maintains anxiety and exhaustion. Settling it is often where lasting change begins.
No two plans are identical, but most people move through the same stages - we build a complete picture before any treatment begins, then bring the whole team together around it.
An in-depth look at your history, timeline and any past records - to understand the root causes, not just the symptoms.
Targeted private pathology - gut microbiome, hormones, genetics, neurotransmitter and nutritional markers - to find what's physically feeding how you feel.
A plan shaped around your specific needs and results, coordinated with your GP or treating doctor where medical input is needed.
Your dedicated team works together through the residential phase, combining psychological, physical and biological care in one coordinated program.
Structured pre- and post-residential support so the progress you make holds once the residential phase ends.
A private, self-contained resort apartment for the residential phase - not a shared facility. Stays are typically around 21 days but can be longer or shorter depending on your needs.
Intensive residential care plus structured pre- and post-residential support for continuity.
A dedicated multidisciplinary team working with you one-on-one throughout your stay.
A close family member, partner or support person can stay with you during the residential phase, and access shared therapies such as couples or relationship sessions.
An immersive amount of one-on-one therapeutic time over the program.
A small guest-services team to help you settle in and get to your appointments throughout your stay.
The residential phase is based at the Atlantis Marcoola Beachfront Resort on the Sunshine Coast - spacious, fully self-contained apartments with ocean views, private balconies, a heated pool and direct beach access. Treatment teams are based at professional practice facilities across the coast, which keeps the program more affordable and gives access to the best practitioners in the region.
Most care addresses one dimension of a person: a psychotherapist works on your thoughts, a GP on your medication, a dietitian on your food. At Goodsky, one integrated team works on all of it together, in the same program, because depression and anxiety rarely come from a single source.
Trauma-informed psychotherapy and somatic therapies to work through what's beneath the symptoms, at a pace your nervous system can hold.
Medical and functional assessment, plus bodywork and movement, to find and address the physical contributors to how you feel.
Targeted pathology and naturopathic support for the gut, hormones and inflammation that research increasingly links to mood and anxiety.
Practical support with sleep, nutrition and routine, so the gains you make are ones you can carry home and keep.
Because the team works together on one plan rather than as separate appointments, the parts join up, which is often what's been missing.
See all therapiesFor people who can't step away from work or family but need more than weekly therapy, Goodsky offers a structured outpatient program via secure telehealth - the same approach, delivered remotely across Australia and New Zealand.

A decade refining a personalised, trauma-informed model of residential care for adults.
Every guest works privately with their own multidisciplinary team. No group programs, no shared schedules.
Wherever possible, Goodsky works alongside your existing GP or treating doctor for continuity and better long-term outcomes, and can arrange additional clinical input where it's needed.
Throughout every program, progress is measured using established clinical screening tools, including the DASS-21, which assesses depression, anxiety and stress. Measuring along the way means your care can be adjusted to what's actually working for you.
Recovery looks different for everyone, and your plan is shaped around your circumstances rather than a fixed protocol.
A short, well-established questionnaire that can help you understand your current levels of depression, anxiety and stress. It isn't a diagnosis - but it can be a useful first step, and something to bring to a conversation with us.

Yes. Many guests arrive while taking medication, and being on medication is no barrier to attending. Goodsky doesn't manage or supervise your medication - that stays with the GP or psychiatrist who prescribed it - and we're glad to work alongside them for continuity of care.
Programs typically include a residential phase with structured preparation beforehand and outpatient support afterward. The exact length is shaped around what each person needs, and is discussed during your initial confidential consultation.

Why some of what gets called depression can be chronic relational stress, burnout, or a nervous system that doesn't feel safe.
